Tydavnet Show Launch 2019

Tydavnet Show 2019 launch took place in Tydavnet Community Centre on Wednesday June 12th, Gerard Sherlock was MC and he spoke of the work that has already been done in preparation for the Show and that work begins as soon as the last Show is over. A full hall of locals, many of whom have been involved in the Show for years , special guests representing neighboring Show committees and the Irish Show Association made up the audience which was entertained by Show Queen and harpist, Rachel Woods and welcomed by Paula Treanor, Chairperson of the Show committee. She paid tribute to the sponsors, traders, exhibitors,landowner, stewards and volunteers, and the general public who attend and the Show depends on every doing their job. Each year there is an art competition for the esign of the programme Front Cover and from the 130 entries Grainne McElroy from Urbleshanny NS was the winner. The Show will be held on Saturday August 17th and there will be something for everyone throughout the day. Raymond Brady, ISA, compimented all who have been involved in the Show from the very first and stated that it takes everyone working together to have a successful show. The guest speaker on the night was Kevin Connolly who is involved with Teagasc, which has many aspects, and he mentioned some of the areas in which Teagasc is active and he concentrated on the issue of Succession, which could on occasion lead to conflict. He also stated that there are plenty of incentives for young people to take up farming but that incentives are needed for the older farmers so that they can have a retirement scheme which does not demand their withdrawal from farming altogether. He also covered the need for safety measures on farms and wished the Show another successful year. He asked the committee to make a donation to the Drumkill day Care Centre and declared the Tydavnet Show now launched. Tydavnet Show also presented a cheque to Peader Mc Mahon on behalf of the Gavin Glynn fundraiser he held in his home.
