PRIZE FUND: €500
RULES AND CONDITIONS
1. In this competition, the produce must be the property of and grown by the
exhibitor.
2. Each exhibit is to consist of the following:
A dish of 5 onions of any variety.
3. The onions may be grown from either seed or sets.
4. The onions may be Autumn or Spring sown. The variety to be correctly named.
5. Each onion must be tied and weigh not more than 450grams.
6. The onions to be harvested and have clear unbroken skins.
7. A special qualifying class will be held at selected shows. Two exhibits may qualify
for the Final, if the Judges agree that the standard is high enough.
The Competition will be judged as follows:
Condition / Quality: 25 points, Uniformity and Shape: 25 points
Size / Weight: 10 points, Colour: 10 point
Overall presentation / attractiveness: 10 points
Judge’s decision will be final at all stages of the competition.
Exhibits are displayed at owner’s risk.
These rules should be read in conjunction with the I.S.A. Rules.
Entry Fee: To Qualifying Show: €3. To Final €6
Prizes: 1st €200; 2nd €125; 3rd €75; 4th €50; 5th €25; 6th €25
FINAL: VIRGINIA SHOW Wednesday 23rd August 2023
Exhibits can be submitted on the evening before the show, Friday 18th August between 7pm and 8.30pm or on the morning of the show no later than 9.30am
Judging will commence at 10.30am on Show day and the exhibits will be closed to the public, including the exhibitors, while the judging is in progress
The Home industries display will be open to the public from the completion of the judging until 5 pm and the exhibits may not be removed before 5pm
Prizes: €10, 2nd €6, 3rd €4, unless otherwise stated
All First Prize winners will compete for the Sir Shane Leslie Cup plus €30, kindly sponsored by Halligans (Fruit & Veg)
Root Vegetables must bear tops of 2 inches (50mm) minimum
No entries permitted on day of event.
